Medicare Supplement Insurance policies. sold by private companies, can help pay some of the remaining health care costs for covered services and supplies, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Medicare Supplement Insurance policies are also called Medigap policies.
Medicare Supplements (Medigap) Don’t Cover All The Things
Medigap policies generally don't cover long-term care, vision or dental care, hearing aids, eyeglasses and even private nursing.
Some types of insurance are not Medigap plans. These include:
- Medicare Advantage Plans which can be HMOs, PPOs, or Private Fee-for-Service Plan
- Medicare Prescription Drug Plans
- Employer or union plans including the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and TRICARE programs for military veterans
- Long term care policies to cover nursing homes as well as in home assistance
